Popular Home Plan Trends
Housing trends tend to change over the years. As an on your land home builder, Tailored by Woodhill Homes, observes these changes in real-time. Here’s a look at the trends that became popular over the last year.
White Homes with Black Trim are Back-In!
This traditional color combination dominated for years and has made a comeback. It’s not unusual to see a home with all white walls, accented with white trim and white cabinets. What may be considered a simple and uncomplicated aesthetic, white’s clean and fresh look appeals to many. For a bold contrast, black accents, trim, and doors are often used to offset the all-white exterior and interior color palettes.
Open Layouts
Open layouts aren’t new, but they are still one of the most popular housing trends. Homeowners appreciate the flow of an open floor plan where it makes it easier to entertain in a larger space. Open layouts create more spacious living areas where the family lives most. It gives family members the opportunity to enjoy the space at the same time.
Elevated Outdoor Living
During the pandemic, we started to really appreciate our outdoor spaces more. Homeowners are now looking to create outdoor spaces that are an extension of the indoor living areas. These spaces are filled with comfortable furniture and cozy accessories. Front porches and covered patios create sanctuaries where people can relax and enjoy the great outdoors in comfort.
Flex Rooms
With the change in our lifestyles and many working from home permanently, a new trend in home plans are flex rooms. Without adding additional square footage to our homes, we can create rooms that serve many different functions within the same space. Flex rooms can provide workspace, homework stations, fitness equipment, libraries, playrooms and more.
ADUs
ADUs or Accessory Dwelling Units have been one of the fastest growing trends. As land costs continue to rise, homeowners are offsetting their expenses by building ADUs in addition to the main housing structure. The passive income these create can be applied towards the owner’s mortgage. ADUs are also becoming popular with the multigenerational living trend. These smaller spaces are great places for parents or in-laws to live and still be near their children and grandchildren while allowing them to still live independently. As the tiny home trend grew, we also saw a need to provide smaller homes for those looking to spend their finances on experiences rather than mortgages.
